Planning a trip to a vacation destination like Palm Springs can be daunting. There are a lot of tourist things to do and see that will keep everyone happy and busy throughout the day, but when adults of the group want a place to relax and enjoy some local color without fanfare, there are several Palm Springs dive bars that will fit the bill.
Red Barn
Don’t be fooled by the big red barn exterior, you won’t find any hay or farm animals inside. In true “diver bar” style, the bar serves up cheap drinks and stiff pours. Local bands typically play anything but country music when they take the graffiti-lined stage. If the local musicians aren’t on stage, the room is filled with tunes from the jukebox. You’ll have to take a little drive to get there, so make sure you designate a driver before you leave. Business hours are 8 AM – 2 PM daily. Their address is 73290 Highway 111 in Palm Desert.
Fireside Lounge
Located at 696 Oleander Rd in Palm Springs, this local staple has been around since 1988 and brings all the charm and atmosphere visitors crave from a dive bar experience. They offer tasty bar food as well as traditional cocktails, shuffleboard, pool tables, and a fully stocked bar for the more adventurous drinkers! Enjoy true Palm Springs atmosphere with the locals when you visit Fireside Lounge.
Boondocks Tavern
Located a little over 20 minutes from Palm Springs, Boondocks Tavern in Banning is worth the short trip. The small tavern has been around for over 50 years and is known for great beer and wine in a relaxing atmosphere that locals love. Listen to local music, play darts, or pool, or head outside for a fire pit, horseshoe pits, or heated patio. Make sure to designate a driver before you leave. Open 9 AM – 2 AM They are located at 4296 W. Ramsey Street in Banning.
Tryst Bar & Lounge
You’ll want to join locals for the cheap food and drinks and the free fun that goes with them. The cocktail dive bar also features an AMI video jukebox, pool, darts, and a pinball machine. Business hours are 2 PM – 2 AM They are located at 188 S. Indian Canyon Dr. in Palm Springs.
The Alibi Palm Springs
Park in the free city lot next to the venue and head to the back where you’ll enter for a great time. The 21 and over venue has great music, food, and cocktails. Their rotating food menu features bites from local restaurants like Mica’s Soul Kitchen’s chicken & waffles, pulled pork sandwiches, or vegetarian or vegan combos. Food is served from 8 PM – 1 AM They open at 7 PM and offer a wide variety of beers, cocktails, and spirits to go with the food. The Alibi Palm Springs is located at 369 N. Don’t worry, they have all the drinks from water and soda to your favorite beers, cocktails, and spirits covered. There is plenty of entertainment here, too.
