The year-round sun and warmth of Southern California makes it an ideal destination any time of year. Pack your bags, gather your friends and family, and stock up on drinks, snacks, and anything else you need for the ultimate road trip, then set your sights on the Palm Springs area. Just getting there is part of the fun of a road trip to Palm Springs, but once you’re here there is an assortment of fun activities and adventures to keep you busy while you’re here.

Desert Adventure Red Jeep Tours

Shake up your Palm Springs road trip adventure and let someone else do the driving. Start at Metate Ranch, located in the heart of the San Andreas Fault Zone! The open-air guided Jeep tour takes you deep into the world-famous fault. There are multiple stops for short nature walks, including a short hike through a “slot canyon” and a natural palm oasis where water bubbles up from the ground all year. You’ll even learn about the Cahuilla Indians and their early life in the area. The three-hour tour includes land use fees, snacks, bottled water, and admission to the San Andreas Fault.

Palm Springs Aerial Tramway

Take a trip where no car can go. Palm Springs is home to the world’s largest rotating tram car. The 80-passenger cars make their way along the breathtaking cliffs of Chino Canyon from the Valley Station to the Mountain Station – an elevation change of nearly 6,000 feet in only ten minutes. At the top there are more breathtaking views, as well as a restaurant and cafe, gift shop, nature exhibits, educational documentary theaters, and more than 50-miles of hiking trails in the Mt. San Jacinto State Park Wilderness area.

Escape Room Palm Springs

The escape room craze has made its way to Palm Springs. The largest escape room games in Southern California are located right in Palm Springs. Choose from six rooms varying in degree of difficulty and number of players to solve. Solve the clues and break out of the room within 60-minutes to win. Choose from themes like Bank Heist, Vampire’s Lair, Merlin’s Magic School, and others.

Golf

The perpetually good weather makes Palm Springs a golfer’s paradise. When you visit the Golf Capital of the World on your spring road trip, make sure your clubs make the packing list. Book tee times online for some of the best courses in the area. Don’t worry if your clubs couldn’t make the trip, many courses offer rental gear.

Palm Springs Walk of Stars

A Southern California must-see on many travelers’ lists is the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Save the two-hour trip and admire the stars right in Palm Springs. The walk spans Palm Canyon Drive, Tahquitz Canyon Way, and Museum Drive in downtown Palm Springs. See the stars of well-known celebrities like Clark Gable, Bob Hope, Shirley Temple, and Elizabeth Taylor. Even presidents like Ronald Reagan and Gerald Ford have been honored. The first stars were installed in 1992, and the most recent star was installed at the beginning of 2022.

Hiking

Lace up your hiking boots and head out. There are miles of trails cutting their way through state and national parks. Hike through canyons and visit landmarks like Cactus to Clouds. Make sure to bring your hiking essentials, like plenty of water, sun protection, and trail snacks. Many trails are also good for biking and horseback tours, so be prepared to share the experience with them.

Social Cycle

Enjoy a unique adults-only activity. The “bike party” provided by Social Cycle is a unique experience that takes you through downtown Palm Springs. The tour starts and ends at their location at 495 S. Industrial Place. You’ll see downtown Palm Springs, Palm Canyon Drive, tiki bars, and countless patios with cold drinks! The unique party bike features a bar with seating for 15, plus the captain. Passengers also help with the pedaling. Food and non-alcoholic beverages are allowed on the cycle. Reserve a private ride for at least six guests or choose to join a public cruise and meet some new friends.

Mid-Century Architecture Self-Guided Tour

Most people are not aware that Palm Springs has one of the largest concentrations of preserved mid-century modern architecture in the world. The self-guided tour that is offered to explore this architecture is very popular amongst locals and tourists! There is a variety of architects represented here, some are well known, others aren’t, some were young and just starting their careers, while others were older and established architects, but all of them embraced the fresh ideas of the Modern Movement.
